Part 2: Getting started

5. Quick start: your first publication on your website

This walkthrough takes you from an empty workspace to a publication that people can read on your website. Each step links to the full instructions.

Before you start, find out the web address where the Reader Embed will appear (for example www.example.com) and who can add code to that page.

  1. Upload a publication. Go to Catalogue and click Upload Publication. Choose your EPUB, PDF or audiobook (.lpf) file, check the details that Cirrus Reader Studio fills in for you, set Status to *Live and click Upload Publication. Wait for processing to finish. → Upload a publication
  2. Choose a preview publication. In the publication's ⋮ menu, choose Use for Reading Instance Previews. This lets you see your reader design with real content. → Choose the preview publication
  3. Add your website's domain. Go to Domains, click Add Domain, enter your website address (for example www.example.com) and click Add Domain. → Domains
  4. Set up a Reader Instance. Go to Reader Instances. Your workspace already has one, called "Your first Cirrus Reader instance". Click it to open it. On the Details tab, select your domain under Permitted Domains. Change the look on the Layout, Theme and Features tabs if you like, then click Save Reader. → Reader Instances
  5. Get the embed code. On the Reader Instances list, open the ⋮ menu for your instance and choose Embed. Pick your publication, click **Copy Code and send the code to your web team with the instructions in What to send your web team. → Putting a Reader Instance on your website
  6. Check it works. When the page is live, open it and read a few pages. After a short while, you will appear under Reader Users and the Dashboard numbers start to change. → Reader Users
