4. Signing in and setting up
4.1 Create an account or sign in
- Go to studio.cirrusreader.com.
- You are taken to the Cirrus sign-in page. Sign-in in one of these ways:
- With Google. Use your Google account. You do not need a separate password.
- With your email address. Enter your email address and password. If you do not have an account yet, choose the option to sign up, enter your email address and choose a password. You will be sent a confirmation code by email to finish creating the account.
- While Cirrus Reader Studio finishes signing you in, you see "Please wait whilst we sign you in".
Password rules. A password must be at least 8 characters long and contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character (such as ! or #).
Forgotten your password? On the sign-in page, choose the forgotten-password option and enter your email address. If the address has an account, you will be emailed a confirmation code. Enter the code together with your new password.
Two-factor authentication. If you have turned on two-factor authentication (see Security), you will be asked for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app after entering your password.
If sign-in fails. Cirrus Reader Studio shows "We were unable to log you in." with a reason, and returns you to the sign-in page after 30 seconds (or straight away if you click the link). For example:
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "An account already exists for this email. Please continue with your social login provider" | You first signed up with Google using this email. | Sign in with Google instead. |
| "You already have an account which we were unable to merge. Please try logging in with your email" | You first signed up using email and password, not a social login provider. | Sign in with your email and password instead. |
4.2 First-time setup
The first time you sign in, Cirrus Reader Studio asks a few questions. It states, "Setup takes about two minutes" and has three steps. A progress bar shows where you are in the process, and Back takes you to the previous step.
- Your profile (required). Enter your First name and Last name and click Continue. If you signed in with Google, these may already be filled in.
- Your publishing plans (optional). Here you can tell Cirrus a little about your work, such as what best describes you, how many publications you have, which formats and genres you publish and whether you already have a website. This helps Cirrus improve the product. Click Continue, or Skip to leave it out.
- First publication (optional). Upload your first publication straight away using the same form as described in Upload a publication (without the Collection field), then click Create Publication. Or click Skip and do it later.
When you finish (or skip) the last step, you arrive at the Dashboard.
4.3 Your free trial
New accounts get a 30-day trial of the Starter plan. During the trial, the account button at the bottom of the menu shows "Plan Trial" and the number of days remaining. You can use all the normal features, with one exception: inviting team members requires a paid plan.
Before the trial ends, an admin should choose a plan under Settings → Subscription. See Subscription and billing. If the trial ends without a plan, access is restricted (see When access is restricted).
4.4 Join someone else's workspace
When a workspace admin invites you, you receive an email with the subject "Join workspace name on Cirrus".
- Open the email and click Accept invitation. Invitations expire after 7 days; the email shows the date.
- If you are not signed in, sign in (or create an account) with the email address the invitation was sent to.
- What you see next depends on whether you have used Cirrus Reader Studio before:
- First time: complete first-time setup. The invitation is accepted when you save your profile.
- Otherwise: you see Join a Workspace: "Accept this invitation using your email. Your personal workspace will remain available." Click Accept invitation (or Cancel to go to your Dashboard without joining).
Cirrus Reader Studio switches to the new workspace. Your own personal workspace is still there; use the workspace switcher to move between them. You join as a Member.
If the link does not work, you may see one of these messages:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "This invitation is invalid or cannot be used by the current user." | You are signed in with a different email address. Sign out and sign in with the address the invitation was sent to. |
| "Sign in with the verified email address this invitation was sent to." | Sign in with the address the invitation was sent to. |
| "Unable to check this invitation or continue sign-in. Please retry." | Try the link again. |
| "This invitation link is invalid.", "This invitation is no longer available." or "Unable to accept this invitation." | The invitation has expired, been cancelled or already been used. Ask the workspace owner to send a new one. |
4.5 Recover an account that is being deleted
If you asked for your account to be deleted (see Delete your account) and then sign in again before deletion begins, you see Recover your account. It shows the date when permanent deletion is scheduled to begin.
- Click Recover account to cancel the deletion and continue using Cirrus Reader Studio.
- Click Sign out to leave without recovering.
Note: Recovering your account does not restart your subscription. If it has expired, an admin will need to choose a plan again.
Once permanent deletion has started, the page reads Account deletion has started and the account can no longer be recovered.
4.6 Sign out
Open the account menu and choose Log out, or click Logout under Settings → Account.
Note: When Cirrus Reader Studio is updated to a new version, everyone is signed out automatically and must sign in again – this is quite normal. After signing in, check the workspace switcher: you may be back in your personal workspace.
4.7 Terms of Service
The Cirrus Terms of Service are linked from the sign-in and sign-up pages, and can be read at studio.cirrusreader.com/terms-of-service.
